Another update for Acme Self storage, now optimising for local areas around the staffordshire area, many of the core page has been successfully crawled and ranked, now waiting for local pages to be found and indexed.

Homepage as is more important is being optimised for the biggest catchment area - self storage staffordshire.

How To Create A Sitemap

Use this tutorial and learn how to create a sitemap now …

If you have not yet verified your website with Google Webmaster Tools, learn how to do this here.

 1. First go to www.google.com an type in “google sitemap online” and select the option www.xml-sitemap.com .

2. Scroll down the page until you come to a heading called “Starting URL” and enter your websites full URL e.g. http://www.howtowebsite.co.uk . Amend the frequency to how often you update your website, keep Last Modification the same, choose “Automatic Priority” and then select “Start

3. Simply wait for the sitemap generation to complete.

4. Once this process is complete you will be presented with a list of option as show below. Under “Download un-compressed XML sitemap”.

5. And proceed to save “sitemap.xml” in a safe and convenient place on your computer, i have save mine on my desktop for easy access. Click “Save

6. You will now have to upload this sitemap.xml file on to your web server in the root directory where you index.html or index.php etc file is. You can learn How To Upload A Website Using FTP here. As soon as you have successfully uploaded this sitemap.xml to your web serve you may move on to the next step.

7. Sign in to your Google Webmaster Account. And select “Sitemaps” on the left hand side.

8. On this page you will have the ability to specify the address of the sitemap.xml file on your website server. In the box provided simply type in sitemap.xml and select “Submit Sitemap“ 

9. After you have done this you may have to wait a while for Google to detect this sitemap on your server and you will receive a confirmation message as shown below.

Congratulations you have successfully added a sitemap to you Google Webmaster Tools Account.

Goolge Webmaster Tools Verify

1. First of all go to www.google.com and type in “webmaster tools

2. You will then have to sign in to your Google Account, if you have not yet created a Google account, create one and return to this tutorial after this step.

Once you have signed into your google Account yo will have the opinion to “add a site“. Type in the URL of your website as shown below and select “Add Site“: -

3. Once you have done this you will see the below confirmation message. Click “Verify Your Site“: -

4. You will now have the option to verify your website by adding a meta tag or adding a page to your web server. In this example i have added a line of HTML code to my web page. Simply select the “Add a meta tag” option, highlight the code shown, right click and select “Copy“.

5. After you gave copied this bit of HTML code go to your websites home page (index.html / php) and paste this line of code just under your title tag (<TITLE> </TITLE>) before the </HEAD> section of your web page.

6. Before Google can verify your website successfully you will have to upload this web page to your server. Learn How To Upload A Website Using FTP. After you have successfully upload this web page to your server, go to back to your Google Webmaster Account and click “Refresh” on your keyboard. A green tick should show for the website you have just added under the “Verified” column.

Congratulations, this means that Google has successfully verified your website.
